Why do I have to live within 10 miles of the EAA convention site?
There are a few reasons: 1. In the 20+ years we have done EAA housing, we have never run out of private homes to rent. 2. Once you get outside of the 10 miles, there are commercial properties available. 3. There are plenty of transportation options within the city of Oshkosh for those visitors not having a vehicle.
|
| |
What is the cost to register?
$25 per listing.
|
| |
How do I register?
You can register online by filling out the registration form. Once the form is filled out it prompts you to send in the $25 via check or money order to our office at 2401 W Waukau Ave - Oshkosh, WI 54904. The forms are available in our office for anyone without computer access.
|
| |
What does my $25 pay for?
It pays for a dedicated EAA Housing Hotline phone number, maintaining the EAA Housing portion of the website, printing costs associated for distribution of materials both prior to and during the EAA convention. processing of forms.
|
| |
Should I rent out my whole house or just rooms?
When you rent out your whole house, it means you will not be staying there. When you rent out by the room, it generally means you will be there and give them some sort of breakfast whether it's just coffee and juice or a full breakfast.
|
| |
How much should I charge for my room or house?
A good rule is $40 - $60 per person per night depending upon your amenities. Last year the average whole house price was $250 per night. Average room rate was between $50 - $90 per night.
|
| |
What is considered an amenity?
Having a private bath, being on the lake, having a pool, having transportation available, whether you are having a full or continental breakfast available (when renting out rooms)
|
| |
Can I post a picture of my house in my listing?
Yes, but the system will ONLY accept .jpg files.
|
| |
What format does my picture have to be?
The picture you upload must be in a .jpg format or you will get an error.
|
| |
How does the process work to get someone to rent my house/room?
We refer everyone to our website and tell them to click on the EAA Housing Menu. Once they click on the Private Housing tab, a listing will display based upon the criteria they want to sort by. The visitor will contact you directly either by the phone number you list or by email. The international visitors would probably use email, so it's a very good idea to list that.
|
| |
Should I ask for a deposit?
This is between you and your renter. Most people require some sort of a deposit in case of cancellation.
|
| |
Should I have them sign a contract?
Some people draw up a contract especially when renting their whole house out and leaving for the week.
|
| |
What should I do when my house/room is rented? What if it's only rented for a couple nights?
Please call our office - 303.9200 and let us know that what you have rented and for what days so we can update your listing. Nothing is more frustrating to our visitors, who call long distance, when they try to rent something that is listed on our website and it is already rented. We ask as a common courtesy that you contact our office as soon as you are rented for any length of time.
|
| |
Do you screen the visitors that are calling to rent my house/room?
We are just a referral service, that would be up to you to ask them the appropriate questions.
|
| |
What questions should I ask the visitor who wants to rent my house?
Anything you need to know to make you feel comfortable about them renting your residence such as: Do you smoke? Are you allergic to any pets? Do you speak English? Do you have any special needs? Are you flying or driving?
|
| |
Are my renters covered under my homeowner's or auto policy?
You need to contact your insurance company for the answer to this question as all policies are written differently.
|
| |
What if a visitor asks for my bank account information?
PLease do not give personal acocunt information to a visitor or anyone else. There are many ways payments can be made such as check, money order, cash etc.
