Private Resident FAQs

Question:  When is the registration period?

Homeowners can register their homes or rooms beginning the first business day in January all the way through the EAA AirVenture Convention.  The price to register, however, goes up $15 after May 1.

Question:  Is there a certain distance from the EAA Convention Grounds that I have to live in to register my home or rooms?

No, this year we are accepting Private Rental Accommodations, regardless of the distance from the EAA Convention Grounds.  If you live outside of the 10-mile radius from the Convention Grounds, however, the cost to register is $15 more.

Question:  What is the cost to register?

If you live within 10-miles of the EAA Convention Grounds, the cost to register homes or rooms is $35 per listing or $50 after May 1.  If you live outside of the 10-mile radius of the EAA Convention Grounds, the cost to register homes or rooms is $50 per listing or $65 after May 1.

Question:   How do I register?

You can register online by filling out the registration form here.  Once the form is submitted, the website will prompt you to send in the registration fee via check or money order to our office at 2401 W. Waukau Ave. Oshkosh, WI  54904 or to call our office at 920-303-9200 to pay with a credit card.  The registration forms are also available at our office for anyone without Internet access.

Question:  What does my registration fee pay for?

It pays for a dedicated EAA Housing Hotline phone number, maintaining and improving the EAA Housing portion of the website, the processing of forms and printing costs associated with materials prior to and during the EAA Convention.

Question:  Should I rent out my whole house, or rooms within my house only?

When you rent out your whole home, you as the homeowner leave the house, leaving it to the visitor entirely.  When you rent by the room, the homeowner generally stays at the house and will usually provide some sort of breakfast, although, this is not required.

Question:  How much should I charge for my room or home?

Last year the average whole home or apartment rate was $300 per night.  Average room rates were $75 per night.

Question:  Can I post a picture of my house in my listing?

Yes, you can submit one photo of your home or rooms.  Note:  the system will ONLY accept .jpg, .png or .gif files, compressed to 72 dpi.  The size should be close to, but not exceed 200 x 200 pixels.  If you provide a file with a transparent background, in a .png format, the image will appear without any white background to it.Yes, you can submit one photo of your home or rooms. 

Question:  What format does my picture have to be?

Question:  How does the process work to get someone to rent my house/room?

We refer everyone to our website, www.visitoshkosh.com and tell them to click on the EAA Lodging link at the top of the homepage.  From this menu, the visitor clicks on the EAA Private Rental Accommodations link.  Once there, the visitor can search private rental accommodations based on several search criteria.  A listing will display according to the criteria the visitor searches by.  The visitor will contact you directly via either the phone number or email that you provided with your listing.  If you do list an email address, make sure you are checking it regularly, so to respond to inquiring visitors in a timely manner.

Question:   Should I ask for a deposit?

This is between you and your renter.  Most people require some sort of a deposit in case of cancellation.

Question:  Should I have my guests sign a contract?

Some people draw up a contract, especially when renting their whole house out and leaving for the week.

Question:  What should I do when my house/room is rented?  What if it's only rented for a couple nights?

Whether you are rented for a couple of days or for the full week, please call our office at 920-303-9200 and let us know of your updated availability.  Availability shows per day with your listing.  Nothing is more frustrating to our visitors, who call long distance, than when they try to rent something that is listed on our website and it is already rented.  We ask as a common courtesy that you contact our office as soon as you are rented for any length of time.

Question:  Do you screen the visitors that are calling to rent my house/room?

We are only a referral service; therefore, it would be up to you to ask them the appropriate questions.

Question:  What questions should I ask visitors who wants to rent my house?

Anything you need to know to make you feel comfortable about them renting your residence.  Some examples of questions may be the following:  Do you smoke?  Are you allergic to any pets?  Do you speak English?  Do you have any special needs? Are you flying or driving?

Question:   Are my renters covered under my homeowner's or auto policy?

You need to contact your individual insurance company for the answer to this question, as all policies are written differently.

Question:  What if a visitor asks for my bank account information?

We advise that you do NOT give personal account information to a visitor or anyone else.  There are many ways that payments can be made, such as check, money order, cash etc.
