SMART Social Launches Community-Wide Troll Scavenger Hunt to Tackle Cyberbullying
[OSHKOSH, WI – Sept 15, 2026] — October 11-17, 2026, cyber “trolls” will be hiding throughout Oshkosh to create a week-long family-friendly scavenger hunt. This event is sponsored by SMART Social, a movement created by the Women’s Fund of Oshkosh Area Foundation to promote healthy online habits.
Cyberbullying affects people of all ages interacting online and can take many damaging forms. 46% of teens, according to Pew Research, report having experience cyberbullying themselves. This Troll Hunt combines family fun, community engagement and meaningful conversations about healthy behavior online.
"The trolls may be fictional, but the behaviors they represent are very real," said Karlene Grabner, Executive Director of the Women's Fund of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and troll creator. "The Troll Hunt gives families a fun way to recognize those behaviors, start meaningful conversations and explore how we can all contribute to healthier digital spaces.”

Clues will be released on the SMART Social website starting 8am CST 10/11/26, with a second round of clues for each troll being released on 10/14/26. Random prize drawings for participants will occur throughout the week and a drawing for a grand prize will be held on 10/18/26 for a Family Fun Pack. To enter to win the daily drawing, you must find one troll that day. Each troll located gives you an additional chance to win the Grand Prize on 10/18.

5 cyber trolls were designed to personify the most common online behaviors identified by local mental health professionals. As part of the hunt, participants can hunt any or all 5.
