All Ages event also offers kite building and hobbyist demonstrations

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — (May 5, 2026) — The skies around Pioneer Airport will be filled with kites on May 30 as the fan-favorite event Wings on Strings returns to the EAA Aviation Museum. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and all activities are free with regular museum admission.

“The return of Wings on Strings has been long-awaited for many of our longtime museum attendees, so bringing it back after more than a decade is a fun moment,” said Chris Henry, EAA Aviation Museum Director. “We look forward to filling the skies of Pioneer Airport as we approach the summer months.”

The museum’s Founders Wing will be transformed into a kite building area, so attendees can go fly them on the historic grass runway of Pioneer Airport. Attendees can also bring pre-made kites from home to fly as well. Members of the Wisconsin Kiters Club will also be in attendance, with demonstrations throughout the day featuring unique kite designs. The day will conclude with a hot air balloon glow, conditions permitting.

Wings on Strings is sponsored by Alro Steel, Capital Credit Union, Community First Credit Union, Cozumel, Kwik Trip, Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Specialists, Pilotsmith, Sargento, and The Taqueria.
