Welcome to Hudak in the City! In a nutshell, I am a sub-par blogger with a true love for food and fun in Oshkosh. Follow along monthly for updates on some of my favorite things to do, eat and drink in the greatest city in Wisconsin!
Caramel Crisp Corner
Downtown Oshkosh since 1933 - 200 City Center D, Oshkosh, WI
Looking for a stop that has it all and has been around for 85 years?! Welcome to Caramel Crisp! Homemade popcorn, cookies, gift store, book store, toy store, cafe food, and more! Owned by Chanda Anderson, this is really a must stop for everyone in Oshkosh. Need a last minute gift or a special something for someone, Caramel Crisp is open Monday-Sunday! The perfect stop for anything from a new top to a fresh coffee, it is the perfect way to spend an afternoon.
Great Deli Options
On our trip to Caramel Crisp, we tried what felt like almost everything! So many options to choose from, they will have something for even a picky palette.
I came across this gem of a spot when I was in college and have been coming back since. Their Chicken Cashew Salad has been a tried and true since I came here for the first time and it was fantastic this trip as well! Chicken, mayo, celery, grapes and cashews can be served over your choice of lettuce or just in a container to enjoy with crackers- it really is delicious and the perfect lunch!
Yummy Sandwiches
Any sloppy joe fans out there? Caramel Crisps is a classic that is served with your choice of chips & Pickle, Potato Salad or Coleslaw. Upgrade instead to Soup or Mac & Cheese (+$1.50) or Side Deli Salad (+$3). Seasonal Sides: Mixed Fruit (Spring/Summer; +$1) or Chili (Fall/Winter; +$3). We tried ours with the fresh fruit and it was a winner for everyone.
My personal favorite and star of the show? The Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese! Bacon, cream cheese, cheddar and jalapeno? How can you go wrong? We got it with the mac and cheese and it was the perfect addition!
The other grilled cheese that was a favorite is the Dilly Bacon! A classic grilled cheese with bacon and pickles? Sign us up! This one we got with potato salad and it was the perfect classic potato salad!
The last item we tried on this trip was the Italian Deli Sandwich- Salami, pepperoni, ham with provolone and your choice of romain, tomato, onion, pickles, jalapeños, and italian dressing. A great deli sandwich that you can’t go wrong ordering!
Cookies - IYKYK!
Have we talked about the cookies yet? Don’t try the Double Chocolate Brownie cookies unless you want to eat 6 in a sitting.. My favorite cookie by far! But that is just one type of multiple different kinds! Want to bake them at home? They started selling their cookie dough so you can make them whenever you want. They certainly don’t stop at cookies though- cake pop, pie, cheesecake, etc- they have it all!
Popcorn - DUH
Looking for something to take to your next tailgate party? Their homemade popcorn is the perfect treat! My personal favorite is the Curry popcorn. As soon as you walk in the door though, you are going to have a hard time saying no to taking some caramel corn home- the smell is everywhere and is fantastic!
Bookstore & Gift Shop - and more.
As if that wasn’t enough, they have a very extensive bookstore that has something for all age groups! You could spend hours mingling around and checking all of the sections out! While you are stopping for a treat, make sure to check out their gift shop that has everything from candles, OSH swag, wine, clothing, decor and more!
Chanda and Caramel Crisp really has outdone themselves with their expansion and I can’t encourage everyone enough to check it out! It is a Downtown staple that we hope is around for another 85 years!
