Jansen's - 334 Bowen St, Oshkosh, WI
Jansen’s Bar and Restaurant is a neighborhood staple that has been around since 1892! While it was originally a grocery store and a variety of bars before it became what it is today, Jansen’s, as we know, opened in the 1970s! Located at 344 Bowen St in Oshkosh, Jansen’s is currently owned by Aaron Busse, this charming Oshkosh staple is as busy as ever! Widely known for their Friday Fish Fry, we had to stop in and check out some other favorites that we think you will love too! We were lucky enough to be seated next to Jane and Terrell at the bar! Jane and Terrell have been coming to Jansen’s for so long that he got his name on the bar! He recommends the Grilled Haddock and stops in every Friday to get it! (Thanks for the tip, Terrell!)

Is there anything better than a sampler basket to start your meal? Janen’s Brewhouse Basket takes a sample basket to the next level! This giant appetizer includes onion rings, mozzarella sticks, deep-fried mushrooms, cheese curds, butterfly shrimp, and chicken strips! Seriously something for everyone and absolutely delicious! The best part? It comes with three different sauces- marinara, cocktail sauce, and ranch!
Wraps, Pastas, Fish & More!
Next up on our sample tour of Janen’s was their Buffalo Chicken Wrap! Grilled chicken breast, romaine lettuce, tomato, bacon, flour tortilla, ranch, cheese, and buffalo sauce- how can you go wrong?! For our side choice, we picked their french fries. Other side options were criss-cut fries, latkes, baked potato, coleslaw, or applesauce!
As a self-proclaimed Pasta connoisseur, we couldn’t leave without trying their Alfredo! We opted to add broccoli and mushrooms and I do not think I have stopped thinking about it since! SO much sauce, (my favorite!), it was absolutely delicious! This dish comes with two huge pieces of garlic bread and your choice of soup or salad. We opted for the Caesar salad and were not disappointed! I am also pretty sure this dish could feed a couple of people for at least a couple of days!
Since Jansen’s is so well known for their Friday Fish, we had to sample a dish! We opted for their Stuffed Shrimp- so so good! Breaded shrimp stuffed with various cheeses and crab meat- served with cocktail sauce, this dish is a winner! We picked coleslaw as our side and added a cup of their Clam Chowder- we highly recommend it!
With such a vast menu, everyone will find their new favorite at Jansen’s! We already can’t wait to go back and try more! Jansen’s is open Monday through Thursday 3-9 and Friday- Saturday 11- 10!
