  • Oshkosh’s Professional Basketball Team began in 1929 - the Oshkosh All-Stars
  • In the 1930’s & 1940’s, Oshkosh’s All-Star team was known across the country for being one of the greatest basketball franchises
  • The team included the best college seniors in the Midwest
  • The All-Stars won the National Basketball League (NBL) Title in 1941 & 1942 
  • Their greatest achievement was winning the World Professional Basketball Tournament in 1942 as they beat the Detroit Eagles and became world champions 
  • They were the Western Division Champions six times
  • The team was assembled by Oshkosh Native Lonnie Darling and the team included big players such as Gene Englund and Leroy “Cowboy” Edwards
  • The All-Stars were a part of the NBL from 1937-1949
  • The National Basketball League (NBL) merged with the Basketball Association of America (BBA) to become what we know today as the NBA
