Discover Oshkosh Announces New Landmark Mural at Fox Valley Technical College Riverside Campus

Nationally recognized muralist Nick Goettling to create large-scale work celebrating the Fox River and the future of workforce education.

OSHKOSH, Wis. — Discover Oshkosh has announced the first project in this summer’s series of public art installations designed to make visible the story of Oshkosh while encouraging residents and visitors to explore the city's 11-mile riverwalk trails.

The first mural will transform a prominent wall at the Fox Valley Technical College Riverside Campus, where Tacoma-based artist Nick Goettling will create a large-scale work inspired by the Fox River and the educational programs that prepare the region's future workforce.

The mural will celebrate the river that gave rise to Oshkosh while highlighting the people and professions that continue to shape the community today. By weaving together imagery of the Fox River with programs offered at the Riverside Campus, the artwork will connect Oshkosh's industrial legacy with the innovation, skilled trades, and career pathways that will define its future.

This mural recognizes that education is part of Oshkosh's story. It's a celebration of the river that built our city and the students who will help build what's next."

Goettling is an award-winning muralist and illustrator based in Tacoma, Washington. His work can be found in communities throughout the United States and includes commissions for cities, universities, museums, breweries, and nationally recognized brands like Clif Bar, Lagunitas Brewing, and Kroger. He has completed numerous public art projects throughout the Pacific Northwest and Chicago, and this Oshkosh commission will mark his third mural in Wisconsin.

Known for creating murals that are deeply rooted in local identity, Goettling works closely with communities to develop artwork that reflects the history, character, and aspirations of each place. His murals often combine bold graphic storytelling with carefully researched local narratives, creating pieces that become lasting landmarks.

The Fox Valley Technical College project is the continuation of a broader initiative kicked off last fall with Wisconsin’s largest mural on the Cummins plant. This year’s effort will bring additional murals to locations along the Riverwalk over the coming months, celebrating the stories that have helped to shape Oshkosh and its culture. Together, the projects will create new destinations along the riverwalk while strengthening the connections between public art, local history, and the waterfront experience.

"As we continue investing in the Riverwalk, we want every section of the trail to offer something unique to discover," Albright said. "These murals will help tell the story of Oshkosh in ways that are accessible, memorable, and uniquely rooted in this community."

Installation of the Fox Valley Technical College mural will begin this week, with additional Riverwalk mural projects announced as they move into production.
