I’ve been to a lot of farmers markets, both local and in cities across the country, and I still can’t believe how amazing our own market is right here in Downtown Oshkosh. With a variety of seasonal produce, adorable arts & crafts vendors, food trucks serving every flavor you can imagine, fresh-baked sourdough and pastries, colorful flowers, and so much more… we truly have one of the best Saturday morning markets around!

This fall, I caught up with Market Manager Michelle, who gave me the inside scoop on what you can expect to find during the crisp, colorful months ahead at the Oshkosh Farmers Market.

Fresh Fall Fruits 🍎

  • Apples, Pears, Plums & Peaches – September is prime apple season in Wisconsin, and the market is home to not one, but two orchards: Redmond’s Apple Basket (400 block) and Apple-licious Orchard (500 block). Both offer a rainbow of apple varieties along with other seasonal tree fruits.
  • Cranberries – Straight from Wisconsin’s famous bogs! Find them at Olden Organics, perfect for sauces, baking, or snacking.

Crisp & Colorful Vegetables 🥦

  • Broccoli and Cauliflower: These are in season during the fall, including September.
  • Cabbage: Cabbage varieties are also available in September.
  • Carrots: Carrots, in a multitude of colors, are in season throughout the fall months.
  • Beets: Beets are another vegetable that can be found in September – you will find several varieties at the market.
  • Potatoes: There are more than 5 varieties of potatoes at the market!
  • Squash, Pumpkins & some Summer Squash: You can still find some summer squash varieties in September, such as zucchini & yellow. Fall squash varieties include acorn, carnival, butternut and more!
  • Sweet Corn: You can still find sweet corn at the market as well.
  • Peppers: Green, yellow, red, orange, spicy & sweet.
  • Tomatoes:  Big and small in all colors of the rainbow!
  • You’ll also find plenty of fresh greens, microgreens, and mushrooms from vendors like Mill City Farm and Olden Organics.

More Than Produce 🍂

The market is about more than just fruits and vegetables - it’s a place to stock up on fresh breads, baked goods, artisan cheeses, handmade crafts, and even beautiful floral bouquets. And with food trucks serving breakfast favorites, coffee, and global flavors, it’s easy to make a whole morning of it!

So grab your market tote and head downtown this fall - you’ll see why Saturdays in Oshkosh are just better when they start at the Farmers Market.
