M+M Adventures continue - this time in Downtown Oshkosh

A lot has been said about the Oshkosh Summer Farmers Market. It is a great gathering spot for friends, family, and most days, eating your way through all the different food vendors. Eggrolls, mini donuts, tacos, popcorn to name a few! And let’s not forget the vast options for brunch, and the other fun stops and shops just around the market - there are so many ways to make a market trip whatever you need it to be. The first Saturday Market was jam packed with people taking advantage of a perfect June Saturday morning.

Before we started dating, Michelle had been going to the market on a pretty regular basis, so it was an easy Saturday “date” and it has become a great way for us to get out, meet up with friends, and get some fresh air, all while getting some of the freshest fruits, vegetables, herbs and baked goods. It is also a way to make cooking with each other way more fun.

We usually start our morning with Vietnamese Iced Coffee from Elsewhere Market at the stand they have in front of their shop on market days. They only have a few items outside, but you can also check out their full menu inside. It’s probably the combination of sweet condensed milk and strong coffee that makes it our go-to beverage to start our market morning. It is worth it if you like a sweet iced coffee!

With the variety of vendors and offerings, we always make sure to get what’s in season! Currently, it’s things like asparagus, herbs, lettuce, radish, rhubarb, and mushrooms. We also challenge ourselves: What’s something that is available at the market that we may not be very familiar with, and what new dishes or treats can we make? As we were browsing we settled on chives, green onion and rhubarb, to try something new.

What did we turn our purchases into?

  • Rhubarb simple syrup (yum!) it is a different flavor for cocktails or sparkling water.
  • Rhubarb galette - a cross between pie and tart;I find them way more forgiving and have much more success making them.
  • Cheese, Green Onion and Chive scones to enjoy as brunch at home on Sunday.
