APPS
While I haven’t tried all of the appetizers yet, I can confirm that the four we sampled are worth coming back for time and time again!
🧅 Jumbo Onion Rings: Truly the most fitting name, these freshly made, beer-battered onion rings are gigantic! Bring some friends, because one order can feed a crowd! Served with their homemade Bistro Sauce, these are a must-try!
🌶️ Cheese Stuffed Jalapeno Cigars: Served with their homemade ranch, these are similar to a crab rangoon mixed with a jalapeno popper- so so good!
🥒 House- Fried Pickle Chips: Served with their Bistro Sauce, think chipotle sauce, these beer-battered pickle chips are some of the best I've had! Again, bring friends, because the portions are huge!
🧀 Battered Cheese Curds: These cubes of cheese goodness are definitely something to write home about. Not your typical cheese curd, these you are just going to have to stop in to try. I recommend getting the ranch and honey mustard with these. Arguably, some of the best honey mustard in town!
MAINS
For the main courses, we put in some work testing out some dishes for you! Some of the most unique sandwiches around- we couldn’t pick just a couple to taste!
🫑 The Capital: Two marinated portobello mushrooms topped with sautéed zucchini, red and green peppers, onions, house-made marinara, melted provolone, and served on a toasted tomato focaccia bread. Fantastic! I ordered this sandwich with the seasoned fries and a side of honey mustard—honestly, a perfect meal!
🥓 The Kentucky Hot Brown: Hickory slow-smoked turkey, honey ham, melted provolone, melted Swiss cheese, served on garlic toast and finished with a rich, creamy Mornay sauce and bacon. I have returned twice and gotten this sandwich both times! It’s a crowd favorite in my family for sure!
🥪 The Pressed Cuban: Braised pork shoulder, honey ham, melted Swiss cheese, fried pickle chips, and 1890 Bistro sauce on grilled French bread. If Cuban sandwiches are your thing, this is a must-try! Highly recommend getting this with a side of honey mustard—you can’t beat it!
🥗 The Garbanzo: Fresh spring mix, Italian garbanzo bean mix, avocado, fresh Parmigiano, goat cheese, and house-made croutons. If you’re looking for fresh, this is your salad! The garbanzo bean mix is what dreams are made of. Can’t recommend this salad enough!
🐟 French Fried Lake Perch: Lightly breaded and flash-fried for a crisp bite and buttery finish. Served with housemade tartar, coleslaw, a dinner roll, and your choice of fries, broccoli craisin salad, and garbanzo bean salad. We couldn’t stop and not try the classic Friday Fish Fry! Absolutely delicious—and the housemade tartar sauce really puts this over the top. Add this to your Friday Fish stops for sure, they have specials every Friday!
While we did try what feels like half of the menu, we will definitely be back to try the rest. Please stop by 1890 Pub & Bistro and support this new restaurant as it is absolutely fantastic! Tell Chef Tony and the rest of their fantastic staff hello- they are killing it! Please report back on your favorites and what we need to add to the list to try- And be sure to tag Discover Oshkosh on Facebook and Instagram for a chance to be featured! Happy sampling!
