M&M Adventures: Beckets Wine Dinner

If we told you that we took a trip around the world and never left Oshkosh, no one would believe us, but that is exactly what we did.

How was this possible, you ask? We attended the Wines around the World dinner at Beckets and had the very best time. Would Mark and I have preferred to actually be traveling around the world right now? Yes, but right now this is the opportunity we had to enjoy a new experience for us.

Before we were M+M we attended a few specialty dining experiences in the community/region, but since we started dating, for some reason schedules got in the way. We had a basic idea of what to expect when we arrived for dinner, though our first task was to pick a spot for dinner. People might think that for us that is an easy task, and it was, but to our surprise we didn’t know anyone in the room, so it was a blind seating.

Wine + Menu Pairings

As we reviewed the menu and enjoyed our welcome beverage, a refreshing glass of Beaujolais, our new table friends shared some things that we could expect over the course of the night as they regularly attend the Beckets Wine Dinner series. We did learn that the next dinner reservations always open the night of the current dinner and reservations fill FAST! Typically different distributors or wine brands are featured and the evening menu is paired accordingly.

We enjoyed hearing why the different wines we tasted were featured and how we could expect them to be enhanced by the menu. Chefs Gabe, Kate and the rest of the culinary team at Beckets created a very delightful Fall Harvest menu that featured a salad course, pasta, pot pie and stuffed peppers, that were nothing like the stuffed peppers any of us grew up eating. Dessert was a nice sized creampuff filled with pistachio cream. 

As dinner progressed we decided to take a leap and sign up for the next offered wine dinner, because having a fun date night experience where we can try new things and enjoy the company of each other but also meet new people seems like a treat to give ourselves right before the busy holiday season begins. Things to know ahead of time:

• Make a reservation - open the night of the current dinner and reservations fill FAST!
• Go with a group of friends, plan a date night, or go solo - wine + dine while meeting fun new people!
• Plan to arrive ahead of the 6pm start time: We got there just before 6 and most people had already been seated. It’s not a big deal - unless you are trying to sit with others!
