The holiday season is here, and Mark and I have started figuring out how to fit all of our must-do Oshkosh traditions into our schedule.

Prior to being M+M, it is safe to say our favorite holiday was Christmas. The lights and magic of the season were something we both hoped to share with “someone” because it wasn’t lost on us that the holidays are meant to be shared with others (family, friends or even a special someone). One of the things we agreed as a couple early on was that we value experiences together, more than gifts. Which is why you will also see this list filled with destinations that are sure to make lasting memories of the time spent with each other. With each one, it’s fun for us to split up the “work”. One person makes a reservation, the other picks the dinner location and it is date night that both of you look forward to!

M+M Holiday Must Do's

Now that we are entering our 4th holiday season together, we’ve pulled together a list of “must do” holiday events that include some timeless favorites in Oshkosh: Celebration of Lights, Nutcracker in the Castle, and one of the many shows at The Grand Oshkosh. These are great date options for couples of any age and relationship status. This year we are also excited to check out the new pop ups at Fox River Brewing Company, The Tipsy Tinsel Tap Room and the Sleigh Room at Gabe’s Wisconsin  Kitchen + Tavern.

Over 1M Lights at Celebration of Lights

Celebration of Lights is a great ride through the EAA grounds. Our night includes grabbing some coffee or hot chocolate as we head to the lights and stopping at Friar Tucks after for an old-school classic Oshkosh restaurant. If you want to make your trip through Celebration of lights a bit more romantic, book a wagon ride!

The Classic Nutcracker in the Castle

The Nutcracker in the Castle at the Paine Art Center and Gardens offers a few different experiences for a visit during the holiday season. Tickets for the actor guided tours went on sale in October and these tours usually sell out, but check The Paine’s website to see what might be available. Self guided tours usually have a lot more availability and are a great way to experience the holiday magic at your leisure to take in all the lights and decor. If you can, go with the candlelight tour - it adds a little extra holiday glow to the experience. Pair it with a visit to the Cupcake Cafe, and you may get some bonus magic with a visit by the Sugar Plum Fairy!

Catch a Show at The Grand in Downtown Oshkosh

The Grand Oshkosh has a full holiday season schedule of concerts and shows for every age, from Festival of Trees, to perennial holiday favorites like John Berry or Lorie Line, to seeing the Nutcracker Ballet come to life on The Grand stage. You won’t be disappointed including any one of these shows at The Grand in your holiday plans. Look for the Holly Jolly Holiday Pass to return, and pair dinner with a show to unlock points to earn cool Discover Oshkosh swag!
