One of the best parts about dating is using the shared experiences to create new memories.
In the middle part of your life when you’ve been dating for a while, it’s important to take advantage of all the opportunities to try something new.
Recently we were among the first guests to dine on opening night at Oshkosh’s newest restaurant, Truffle Pig. We decided we were all in on making the most of the experience. We got dressed up, ordered a couple of appetizers to share, a bottle of wine, an entree each, and then shared a dessert.
Newest Restaurant in Downtown Oshkosh
Once we walked into the front entrance (side note: props for having a host area separate from the rest of the restaurant) we immediately forgot we were in Oshkosh and in the “old Northwestern” building. The dining area is bright and open, but also feels very intimate. There are two areas that can seat smaller groups. The bar is cozy and well appointed and there are some great signature cocktails - we tried the Godfather and Venetian Spritz.
There are a variety of entrees that sounded fantastic. Our bartender spoke highly of the Branzino. The menu is very approachable. It has a nice variety and will have something for every taste, while not feeling overwhelming. Regardless of your mood or the occasion, you’ll find something to enjoy.
Everything we ate was fantastic and we used the opportunity to try a few new appetizers. The burrata and prosciutto appetizer was amazing. To us, it’s rare to have such a fresh and light dish that was also very flavorful. I have been converted to a veal fan with the Vitello e Tonnato. We both enjoyed the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese and Spaghettoni Cacio e Pepe as entrees, though it was a tough decision. Pastas are made fresh in house, and it shows!
One of a Kind Dining Experience
Do your best to save room for dessert. After careful consideration, splitting a classic Tiramisu was the perfect ending to our experience! We promise you won’t leave hungry.
Both of us have a hospitality industry background, so we arrived with excitement for the experience and a heavy dose of patience. No matter how many soft openings and trial runs you do, there is something about the reality of opening night. Everyone on the team is finding their flow with one another. Staff at Truffle Pig are very well versed and want to give each guest a fine dining experience and will continue to gel as each service progresses.
Many will say that places like the Truffle Pig should be saved for special occasions. It will definitely live up to that standard and should be added to the list of places Oshkosh has for those special occasions. But aside from the main dining experience, you could likely grab drinks and some appetizers at the bar, or grab a Neapolitan style pizza and a glass of wine. It is definitely a place for a one of a kind dining experience right in Oshkosh. We also believe that sometimes a random Wednesday in the middle of the week is worthy of celebration!
Things to know ahead of time:
- Make a reservation - they might be booking a few weeks out. Check availability here!
- Give yourselves time to enjoy dinner. The staff aren’t going to rush you, so don’t rush yourselves.
- As with all new things, be patient. The experience was great, our server was knowledgeable, every other member of the team was engaged in making our dining experience the best it could be. I’m confident they’ll iron out the first-week jitters.
- The wine list is extensive! Despite that, there is a price point for every budget, and if you need help, just ask!
In our opinion, Italian food always makes for a great date-night. We can’t wait to come back to Truffle Pig and split a salad, enjoy some pizza, and pick a new bottle of wine from the list.
