BUNbelievable Hot Dogs!
Sitting at the 100+ year old bar at Bob’s Trails End for a noon hotdog lunch always transports me back to my childhood, going to the neighborhood bar with my Dad on Saturday. Bob’s is like the bar I grew up in…pool table in the back, darts, amazing jukebox! What separates Bob’s from everyone else though is the humble hotdog. Bob is the sole-source provider of the secret chili dog sauce recipe that’s sustained thousands of Oshkoshians since the 1990s. Bob takes a locally-sourced custom-made Brandon Meats natural casing hot dog (they snap when you bite them!) wraps it in a pillowy steamed bun and does his magic with the chili sauce and onions. Dawn and I get three for $6, jawing with Bob or Julie is free!
Pat’s Tips:
- Bob’s is cash only; ATM on site.
- For an authentic German treat, Bob’s also serves braunschweiger and brick cheese, which means you can enjoy Bob’s B+B Combo on mild rye, with thinly sliced onion, mayo + butter. Guten Tag!
- The history vibe is strong at Bob’s, the back bar is a cultural touchstone! Julie works afternoons, and is happy to share vintage photos of Bob’s through the years, just ask.
- Office Lunch Alert: easy parking, combined with the hotdog’s superior transportability, make this a great choice when it’s your day to bring in office lunch!
